A Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life 🌻The Remake!

When I was a real little kid—and we’re talking elementary school little—my favorite thing in the world was to play Harvest Moon. I still remember, twenty years later, sitting on the floor of my aunt’s house after having just watched Cardcaptor Sakura for the millionth time, and deciding to play Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life to while away the rest of the afternoon until my mom came home from work.

So when I found out that they were doing a remake (under the new series title, A Story of Seasons, for whatever reason) I knew I had to get it. When I found out they were offering a stuffed goat with the preorder version, I realized quickly that I didn’t have a choice in what edition I bought either!

That being said, I was happily surprised to find that the little stuffed goat (absolutely adorable btw) wasn’t the only extra prize I got for preordering. I also got a cloth poster to hang up on my wall! I haven’t decided where exactly I want to put it yet but I’m so happy I have it!

From the moment I turned the game on I was enchanted and in love. I didn’t know for sure what to expect from a remake of a game I played thousands of times as a kid—I had no idea what they would have changed or kept the same or how I would feel about it—but I can report that I am happy beyond measure with what was presented to us fans of the original.

They didn’t change too much, from what I remember of the original, just updated a lot of it. Nostalgia took over completely the second the game booted up on my switch for the first time and I couldn’t keep myself from it since. Every day, even if just for a little while, I have curled up with my game and indulged in the sweet, whimsical world of Forgotten Valley (side note: I ended up marrying Matthew!)

Remakes of old games are tricky. You have to change something, or else whats the point of doing an update? But you can’t change too much or else you risk alienating the fans that made the original game popular enough to warrant a remake, and you can’t change the wrong things either but whose to say what the right or wrong things are?

Or maybe I’m just massively overthinking it (very likely!)

All-in-all, I’m super glad I got the preorder edition and got my little goat friend and my wall tapestry! I think I’m going to go play some more right now!
