Fireside Tales

You find yourself in a small, cozy living room. Stone covers the wall on the far side, and on that same wall burns a gentle flame in a hearth crafted of enchanted wood. You spot the runes on the side—is that what is keeping the wooden hearth from burning?—and you are so enraptured by them that you don’t notice the two cats circling your feet. Once you do, you smile and kneel to pet them. This is a lovely place, quiet and calm. You feel at peace here, if not a little unsettled by the portrait of the man in the mint suit with the large rabbit in his arms.

Through the kitchen you hear a door come open. Soon, you are greeted by the mistress of the cottage with a smile.

“Oh! Hello! Are you here for your story? Of course you are—of course! Come, sit by the fire. I’ve got the perfect story for you right here.”

She goes to a bookshelf, plucks a fat tome bound in leather from the shelves, and sits in a chair before the fire. You sit on the floor, warmed by the hearth, and are swarmed by the cats as the mistress of the cottage opens the book.

“I have the perfect story for you today.”
